About Charlie's Trio

Charlie’s Trio stands as a beloved institution in Los Angeles, representing over five decades of culinary tradition and family dedication. Located at 5769 Huntington Drive North in Los Angeles, California, this establishment has become a cornerstone of the local dining scene, offering an authentic blend of Italian cuisine, American comfort food, and a vibrant bar atmosphere that welcomes both longtime patrons and newcomers alike.[1] The restaurant’s journey began in 1971 when Chuck Fata Jr. opened a modest pizza establishment called Big Man Pizza, named after the nickname friends had given him during his high school years.[1] What started as a small pizza operation has evolved into a comprehensive dining destination that seamlessly combines multiple culinary experiences under one roof.

The heart of Charlie’s Trio’s identity lies in its deep family roots and the values instilled by three generations of the Fata family. The grandfather, Charlie Fata Sr., played an instrumental role in shaping the restaurant’s character by sharing stories of his childhood in Calabria, Italy, and his immigration journey to the United States while working in the kitchen during the early years.[1] These formative experiences embedded principles of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and strong family values into the restaurant’s DNA—principles that continue to guide operations today. The name “Charlie’s Trio” itself reflects this family legacy, honoring the grandfather who contributed his passion and work ethic, the father who initiated the vision, and the brother who maintained its momentum through the years.[1] This naming convention demonstrates the restaurant’s commitment to acknowledging the collective effort that transformed a small pizza shop into a thriving multi-faceted establishment.

Today, Charlie’s Trio operates as a laid-back eatery that specializes in pizza and Italian classics, all served in a comfortable, welcoming setting that encourages guests to relax and enjoy their dining experience.[2] The restaurant has earned recognition for its exceptional broasted chicken, which reviewers consistently praise for its outstanding spices and crispy texture.[2] Beyond chicken, the menu showcases an impressive array of pizzas and pastas that have garnered praise from satisfied customers who return regularly. The establishment’s commitment to quality extends to its full-service bar, which is well-stocked and staffed by knowledgeable bartenders dedicated to crafting drinks tailored to individual preferences.

The attached sports bar component adds another dimension to Charlie’s Trio’s appeal, creating an environment where guests can enjoy meals while catching their favorite games or sporting events. This integration of dining and entertainment makes the venue suitable for various occasions, from casual family dinners to social gatherings with friends. The restaurant’s operational hours reflect its commitment to serving the community throughout the week, opening at 11:00 AM on most days and extending hours until 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings, allowing flexibility for both lunch and dinner service.[4]

Charlie’s Trio’s success stems from its ability to honor its heritage while remaining responsive to contemporary dining preferences. The restaurant has expanded its footprint to neighboring Alhambra, where it has served the community for over two decades, and has partnered to create additional dining experiences including Vino’s Back Alley wine bar and 38 Degree’s Craft Kitchen and Bar.[1] For those seeking authentic Italian cuisine, quality American fare, and a vibrant social atmosphere in Los Angeles, Charlie’s Trio represents a destination where tradition, family values, and culinary excellence converge. Always good food, good service & a good time at Charlie's. Bar & booths & high chairs on 1 side & a sit down restaurant atmosphere on the other side. Good casual place to watch a ball game or just hang out & enjoy a good dinner. The chicken parm dinner is good, also the pasta stuffed shells - delish!!! Parking is always taken but you could park on the street near residential.

Charlie’s Trio was absolutely the best choice for our gathering. We called a few days in advance to give them a heads-up, knowing they don’t take reservations, and they were incredibly accommodating. When we arrived, we only had to wait a short while for them to prepare a section for our large party, which wasn’t an issue at all—especially with their excellent bar to enjoy in the meantime. The entire team was amazing and treated every single person in our group with kindness and attentiveness. The service truly stood out. The food was absolutely delicious. From the appetizers to the pizza and entrées, everything was packed with flavor and perfectly prepared. We had family traveling in from all over the country, including Canada, and every single person left satisfied. We came together for somber reasons, but Charlie’s Trio gave us a space where we could connect, share a meal, and leave with our hearts—and stomachs—full. I would definitely recommend Charlie’s Trio for any occasion. I would give 10 stars if I could. The team at Charlie's is absolutely the best. Customer service is still alive, but can only be found in little gems like Charlie's trio.

Went there for dinner with friends but happened to get there early enough for their Monday - Friday happy hour that was 4-6 pm., so we ordered off the HH menu. The food was amazing! Portions generous and everything was delicious. The ribs was a meal in itself as was the spaghetti and pizza! Mozzarella was definitely homemade and delicious and the calamari! Yum! We got in a 2nd order with minutes to spare lol. Prices were amazing and service was great! Loved the hustle and bustle but also the ambiance of a nice family restaurant or date night place. They have a bar on the other side of the lobby too but happy hour is served in the main dining area too.

We were very delighted the first day we tried the broasted chicken… I came back the next day and ordered 4 lunch boxes for my crew and I and the chicken was NOT as fresh as the day before. It was dry and not moist and juicy like the first time. It was either over cooked or old! I had also sent my other guys there the same day, they dined in as I was ordering to go. They were very disappointed as well and had returned everything they ordered as they were NOT happy with the flavor of anything they ordered, except the cheese sticks and the cheesecakes I sent to their table before I left with my to go order! I had also ordered a blueberry cheesecake to go and was given strawberry, which was good both times but I was really looking forward to tasting the blueberry! Not sure if there was a different cooks each day, but whatever happened I hope this review gets it corrected… this was all this past weekend Saturday 6/7 and Sunday 6/8!!
